PokerStars Announce 2011 WCOOP Schedule
The number one online poker site has recently announced the schedule for the number one online poker series. The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is the leading event of the year for many poker players throughout the world who do not have the time or resources to get involved in the World Series of Poker. Like the WSOP, you receive a shiny gold bracelet to mark your achievement but unlike the WSOP you don´t have to get out of your pyjamas to get involved in the tournaments!
WCOOP Facts and Figures
Since its inception in 2002, the WCOOP has paid out more than $220 million in prize money with a staggering $63 million paid out last year alone. A record first prize of $2.278.097 went to the winner of the WCOOP 2010 Main Event – Tyson “Potterpoker” Marks – and over 140,000 people participated in the event. This year, the WCOOP schedule is comprised of the most popular poker disciplines to be found on PokerStars and starting at more convenient times for UK poker players following the events of Black Friday.
The Black Friday Effect
Some pessimists believe that the event will be a shadow of its former self following the withdrawal of access to the PokerStars site by American authorities. However, some very high profile names have indicated that they will be moving to Canada (whose banks do not require proof of residency in order to open an account) to compete in the events, and with an additional pool players available from the site formally known as Full Tilt Poker, there may still be as many participants as in previous years.
How to Enter the WCOOP
Direct buy-ins are not yet available but satellite events for those who cannot afford direct buy-ins to all 62 events will soon be announced. To keep up to date with the news about the WCOOP, subscribe to our news feed. There will be regular updates on the fortunes of UK poker players competing in the events, plus all live action reports from wherever UK poker players are competing throughout the world.
